Ten Commandments

How we like to live

1. If you make a mistake, own up – Everyone makes mistakes, it can’t be helped, but let us know when it happens and we can get it fixed and move on with no hard feelings.

2. Friday afternoon is experimentation time, none negotiable – Friday 4pm till 5pm is used to work on something new and exciting, maybe it's some web research or playing with some new code. Anything that interests you.

3. Be proud of the work you produce – Don’t sacrifice quality to hit a deadline, let someone know if things are falling behind. No one will thank you for hitting the deadline but delivering rubbish.

4. Our clients are our friends – Be polite, listen to what they have to say, help them to the best of your ability and don’t be afraid to say ‘I don’t know the answer to that’ if they ask something tricky. But, do follow it up with ‘…however, I’ll do my best to find out and get back to you’.

5. If you promise something, make sure you deliver it – We take pride in keeping our promises, so remember only promise something if you know that you can deliver on it and don’t go making promises for anyone else.

6. Get away from the computer – Nobody will thank you for sitting in front of the computer all day. Get up and put the kettle on, you’ll get thanked for that!

7. If you’ve got an idea, don’t be afraid to tell someone – Maybe it’s a great idea for a web application or maybe you just think something we’re doing could be done better. It doesn’t matter what it is just tell someone because you never know where it could lead.

8. We’re not psychic, if there’s a problem tell us – If you’re not happy with anything, for any reason, don’t be afraid to speak to someone about it. Even if it’s a problem outside of work, there may be something that can be done to make life a little easier.

9. Never be afraid to ask – You may have a line of code you write everyday but you have no idea why, ask someone. There is no such thing as a stupid question, as long as you learn from the answer then it’s time well spent.

10. Lunch time is your time – We appreciate sometimes you’ll have to work your lunch hour to meet a deadline, but on the whole, lunch time is your time. Try to get some fresh air, clear your head, but failing that do something at your computer non work related.

As ever if you want to know more about what we do, the projects we work on, how we can help you just drop an email over to editor@thap.co.uk
